Behind the screens- giving specific examples of the films that you watch- How have films become commercialised and why does this matter?
January 11, 2009
Films have been commercialized and it’s much more than you would ever believe. Like the very famous film series James Bond. New films are always being added to the series each year. Each film contains lots of advertisement. James Bond never uses a product that doesn’t have an etiquette his car is alfa romeo his cellphone is Sony Ericsson his glasses RayBan. The whole film is a long commercial. or another Disney film called “blank check” that was my favorite film when I was kid and that is the same film that I learned the Macintosh from. In the film the kid uses the Macintosh computer which can do everything and even he calls himself Macintosh. Think about it through out the whole film Macintosh is repeated a million times and the viewers of this film is small children.
The films stated to tell the audience that they should by this and that and they shouldn’t by that. Just by directing them the films are contradicting the peoples freedom of choice. While a person thinks that he is doing, buying a thing by his own will actually his subconscious mind tells him what to buy and what not, and his subconscious mind is directly under control of these media sources. Now a days the hit films are always the comercial films then how on earth can we say that people have their own free will while these films are nearly watched by 1/6 of the world. If 1/6 of the world doesn’t have free will who has it. Maybe the people living in poor parts of Africa who doesn’t have a TV in their homes is not effected this mesecar of free will maybe we should go and live there because we are being standardized while doing our daily jobs.
Write an autobiographical entry on your relationship with the media.

I have been involved with the media since I have known my self. When I was just a kid I used to consume lots of cartoons. I nearly new all the episodes of Nickelodeon’s cartoons. I really liked the channel because it had nearly no commercials which I found really boring those days. but as I grew my media expectations changed. I started to like movies and news and my hate against the commercials increased. Now a days I watch minimum amount of TV because of the commercials. İnstead I prefer consuming my media from the internet but the truth is I couldn’t get away from the commercials because every site has an advertisement in it or every film promotes a product. The only better thing about internet advertisements is that it doesn’t consume my time by airing for 10-20 minutes like advertisements. Another reason that I consume my media from the internet is that when media is consumed over the internet I can filter the media that I want to receive. So the media over internet enables me to consume what ever I want.
Probably rhe most media source that is effecting is the hidden messeges on films. Because I consume lots of films. I watch 1 or 2 films each day (unless there is final exam :D) and each film contains little small amount of adcertisment. I could detect most of them but there sure is some that I couldn’t which would effect me indrictly and I hate being influenced badly while doing one of my favorite hoby.
tabloidization of the news media
December 30, 2008
as the news media gets tabloidized there occurs an huge problem with originiality because people are given the same idea, news over and over again and while doing that they are forced to learn uselless ideas. So while watching the media people stop learning but starts to just envy the rich. Or they are just turned in to animals that can look in only one direction favoring or hating an idea. But I blieve it’s too late to talk about media getting taboldized because it’s process is already finished and it is irreversable while it is directly changing people. I blieve the only way to change this is to open a revolutionary tv channel but I am not sure if it can ever kept open because of economical issues
the role of media as a supporting institution
December 30, 2008
what this article is really important even though we don’t notice it, beacuse as we are mtv generation kids we do not notice how the tv effects us, even our music taste is directly effected by the media. so even in small scales media can effect us (like music). Now if we look at it in a larger scale some media companies control all the media and those media companies are controled by some congress man, or a rich manager. So think how can that congress man can shape us. Our music taste view of life. This text made me reliease it. The media companies has the power to rule us.
Film Analysis: C.R.A.Z.Y.
November 16, 2008
The film C.R.A.Z.Y. is a french film who tells about a boy who choose homosexuality and tells most of his life before and after he choose this path.
The main issue in the film is that the main character is the favorite son but when he chooses homosexuality the father reacts really harshly and the total plot of the film is based on this. Telling how he tries to regain the trust of his father.
The film in the film is a crowded one. The family has 5 sons so there is a lots of competition going on in the family. The kids try to be the favorite so they bully each other and the father expect the kids to become successful and still loving for the family. The father is though conservative and every action that doesn’t fit his norms becomes a huge problems.
To solve his problems with his father and return to the times where they were really close he runs away hoping that everything would be forgotten but running away never solves anything so he returns to face the problems. So that he will return to the old days with his father
So the main issue in the text is our parents expectations and their view about us. Do parents have right to give up on us because of our actions preferences or should the family/parents be protectors of us and look after us. or should we run away from our problems and wait the time to solve the problems. I believe direct approach to the family is a must. We should confront our families if there is a problem. This film tells us the same thing too that we must confront our parents and our problems because our family is there to protect us.
What Are We Fighting For?
November 5, 2008
In now a days society there is a huge homofobia going on imposed on the news, films, books but for example in ottomans before there was a Renaissance the gay marrige was inside the culture it self but with the affects of renaissance and the western culture the people started to see gayness as a sickness because it’s not common between people (or we blieve it’s not common) but we can never know if it’s a natural instinct or a sickness unless we feel it too which is less likely to happen for most of the people.
So to tell we cannot expect the common people understand what’s going on inside the gay couples mind or to feel what they feel. But this doesn’t mean we can stop respecting their ideas. We should respect their sexual preferences, we should expect their will to get maried even if it is against our own gudgment.
Tiny Smilling Daddy
October 28, 2008
When I read the story I kept asking the same question to my self. Are we able to live up to our parents expectations? The thing is the parents spend so much time for us that can we reapy them. This story is aobut the same concept too. A father expects so much form his daughter that he cannot accept the fact that she turned out to be so different. He doesn’t allow her to be a free person who has her own life.
The main question is can we be tottaly different parents compared the one in the story. İs it possible not to expect someting from our children. İs there a way to prevent/kill this expectation. To tell the tuth I would expect a lot from my children so may be I wont be a great parent but I don’t care what others think about it but may be I can be more respectable for my child’s preferences. So the story is realy realistic as I see it.
A Rose For Emily
October 14, 2008
The story ( A Rose for Emily) turned out to be really different from what I have expected. I expected that it would be a melancholic love story where the partners cannot meet because of a person but really this story was about the conflict of traditions. And it wasn’t really melencholic but instead it was more of a depressing story with dark/negative images.
In the story the Homer Barron dies because Emily cannot cope with the traditions. It is really ironic because I believe that the ridget body of traditions always start and end in the mind so the death of him was never a necessity if Emily could find the will to change her mind. So I ask all of us.
is it really that important what others think even if it results in death?
İsn’t the life of a person worth change your own point of view?
